Man arrested near Pollock Pines after gas station standoff
POLLOCK PINES, California (KOLO) - A California man has been arrested following a standoff at a gas station near Pollock Pines on Saturday. Around 4:00 p.m. on May 25, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol received reports of a man armed with a shotgun who had entered the Chevron gas station in Fresh Pond, California.
Ace Hardware owners purchase old Rite Aid location for expansion
Auburn’s Ace Hardware store will be moving into a much larger space later this year, as the business’ owners recently purchased the old Rite Aid location on Highway 49. Darek and Carrie Borba officially took ownership of 420 Grass Valley Highway, a former Rite Aid Pharmacy, last week.
Memorial Day honors 'selfless service'
The Auburn community began Memorial Day gathered at the New Auburn Cemetery to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. "We are gathered here to remember the brave men and women who gave so much for us," Bonnie Potter (RADM, MC, USN (ret.)), host of Auburn's annual quartet of ceremonies, said while a wreath was laid on the Auburn Area War Memorial during the first service.
Two blazes keep Georgetown Fire crews busy
Mother's Day weekend proved to be an active one for crews of the Georgetown Fire Department. On May 11 crews responded to the Volcanoville Fire in Volcanoville off Paymaster Mine Road. Firefighters were dispatched as a smoke check at 4:40 p.m. and the fire was immediately upgraded to a vegetation fire. Crews arrived to find an approximately 4-acre fire involving two pieces of heavy equipment from a logging company. The fire grew to 7 acres but was controlled within a few hours and completely extinguished over the next 24 hours.
Couple set up by groom’s grandmother gets married at her Folsom retirement home
FOLSOM, Calif. — A Folsom wedding took place at a retirement home Sunday, so the groom’s elderly grandmother didn’t have to travel. Judy Bryant, 99, was one of over 50 guests at the wedding of William Bryant, of Auburn, and his bride April Rose, of Citrus Heights, at Creekside Oaks in Folsom, according to family spokeswoman Erin Peacock.
