Tracking the first major heat wave of the season
Tuesday evening update: We’re entering a typical summer pattern here in the CSRA with afternoon and evening showers and storms. The bigger story though will be the heat and humidity. Highs will be soaring into the mid 90s later this week and into weekend. When you combine that with high humidity, heat index values will be around 100 to 105 degrees. Since this will be our first major heat wave of the season, it’s important to take precautions. Stay hydrated, take breaks in the A/C, and check on others who are vulnerable to heat related illnesses.

First Alert Forecast l Summer Heat and Scattered Storms Moving Into the CSRA
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) — More moisture is moving into the CSRA, and that’s going to be the driving factor in our weather pattern for the next several days. Tuesday looks similar: another round of scattered afternoon and early-evening showers and storms is expected. Once again, a few storms could briefly be heavy, especially in areas that manage to heat up more before storms develop. While temperatures may stay a touch “cooler” thanks to clouds and rain, the humidity won’t go anywhere—so it may still feel uncomfortable outside.

Hurricane Season Begins with CSRA Residents Urged To Prepare for Inland Threats
The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season started June 1 and runs through November 30. Officials warn that inland areas like the CSRA can face serious impacts from tropical systems. Flash flooding poses the biggest concern for the Augusta area when tropical systems move inland. Wind damage is another concern, even when hurricanes diminish below hurricane strength. Strong gusts can down trees and break limbs. Scattered or widespread power outages follow, along with blocked roads and downed lines.
