Room tax requests, led by $175,000 for Sylvan Hill Park parking lot, outstrip what Wausau has left
Requests for Wausau hotel tax money, led by $175,000 to pave the Sylvan Hill Park parking lot, total more than the city’s Room Tax Commission has left this year. “Because the project directly improves a destination used by visitors and supports events that attract overnight guests, room tax funding is an appropriate investment,” the city’s Finance Department wrote in a memo recommending one-time funding for the lot.

Your letters: MAGA morphs into party that supports whims of single leader
MAGA has changed! It’s original platform was understandable in the U.S. political scene. It’s basic ideas were sound. No extended foreign wars. Try to balance the budget and to keep the national debt from growing. To aggressively go after the worst of the worst immigrants. Control inflation and the cost of living for the average family. Have a morally upright government. Support democratic allies throughout the world. Promote only selective and highly selective tariffs. Control wealthy oligarchs, including having them pay their fair share of taxes. Regulate corporate and oligarchic money in political campaigns.

Council briefs: Downtown snow billing, street assessments and lead line funding on Wausau agenda
Downtown Wausau property owners would again be billed by the foot for sidewalk snow removal this winter under a resolution on Tuesday’s City Council consent agenda. A private contractor hired under a low-bid contract clears sidewalks along parts of Third, Fourth, Washington, Jefferson, Scott, Forest, Jackson, McClellan, Grant, First and Second streets, and the city bills adjacent owners for each foot of sidewalk cleared. Last winter’s rate was $12.71 per linear foot. “The linear cost varies each season based on the amount of snow and snow clearing events,” Public Works Director Eric Lindman wrote in an Oct. 8 memo. Bills are due within 30 days, and charges unpaid by Sept. 30, 2027, would be added to the tax roll as delinquent taxes.
