Trick-or-treating in Merrill will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Halloween
In the city of Merrill, trick-or-treating will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. As a rule, if a light is on outside the home, the home is probably prepared with treats for the kids (but remember some people have motion lights, so it’s not a hard-and-fast rule).

Your letters: Wausau’s budget problems go deeper than a 6.76% tax increase
I should not have done it. I should not have picked up a copy of the City of Wausau’s 2027 proposed budget. But old habits die hard. What did we get this time? The budget proposes a 6.76% increase in the tax levy—nearly twice the rate of inflation! It is the largest increase in decades. A person would probably have to go back to the inflationary period of the 1970s to see a number that big. Moreover, the city is proposing this despite concerns about housing affordability and at a time when both Marathon County and the Wausau School District are lowering their property tax rates. It is a budget that is completely untethered from reality. It is a budget from inside the city hall bubble.
