New Dollar General store wet to celebrate grand opening in Walhonding

WALHONDING − A new Dollar General has opened at 31999 U.S. 36 in Walhonding, with a grand opening celebration planned for 8 a.m. Nov. 7. The location was previously a Family Dollar. The first 50 adult customers at the grand opening will receive $10 gift cards, according to a release from the company. Additionally, the first 100 customers will receive a Dollar General tote bag. The store is expected to employ approximately six to 10 people, depending on its needs. Those interested in available positions can apply through Dollar General's careers website . “We look forward to serving the Walhonding community by providing customers with increased accessibility to affordable household essentials,” said Zak Brining, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development, in a community release. “At Dollar General, we believe each store also provides positive economic growth by creating new jobs and career opportunities for employees, generating tax revenue for local municipalities and giving access to Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants." The new store also makes schools, non-profit organizations and libraries within a 15-mile radius eligible to apply for grants through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Asbestos cost dispute leads Coshocton land bank to change contractors

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton County land bank is moving asbestos removal work on two demolition projects to a different contractor after obtaining estimates that could save more than $26,000, prompting a dispute with the company originally awarded the jobs. The work will be completed with funding from the Ohio Department of Development. At its August meeting, the land bank awarded seven demolition projects to Land Clearing Specialists. The company later hired Aster Oilfield Services of Bellaire as a subcontractor for the work. More: Land bank reviews bids for 10 property demolitions across Coshocton Co. Aster came back with a change order for three structures related to asbestos removal. Asbestos work estimates were $21,440 for 55668 Township Road 154, $13,246 for 28099 County Road 12 and $12,944 for 28009 Township Road 281. Tiffany Swigert, director of the Coshocton Port Authority and land bank board member, said the size of the asbestos change orders prompted the land bank to seek a second opinion. Estimates from Ohio Technical Services were $6,200 for Township Road 154 and $2,400 for County Road 12. The company has not issued an estimate for Township Road 281 yet. Avita Health System recently honored more than 140 employees for years of service and recognized workers for contributions to patient care, teamwork and the organization. The employees were recognized during Avita's annual Years of Service & Excellence Celebration, according to a community announcement. Service milestones ranged from 10-50 years. Lu Ellen Ness, a medical laboratory technician, marked 50 years of service with Avita Health System. Nurses receive DAISY Awards Five nurses received the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence: Janet Heydinger; Andrea "Andi" Evans; Andrea Roberts; Aimee McKenzie; and Sarah Konves. The Monarch Award, which recognizes non-nursing employees who positively affect the patient and family experience, went to Krista Collins, Gary Iceman, Sarah Kanz, Stephanie Kitzler, Jeff Mostoller and Kirsten Tanner.
