On Thursday, April 18, 32 members of the Franklin-Southampton Republican Committee met at Fred’s, with newly elected Chairman Mark Kitchen presiding.

After Jim Hart’s invocation, the members recited the pledge of allegiance to our country’s flag. Theresa Preston read the Republican creed.

Del. Otto Wachsmann was one of many guests in attendance. Lynda Updike, a member of the Southampton County Board of Supervisors, was also present. Wachsmann spoke briefly with those in attendance.

Those in attendance expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming election, and much was learned about encouraging new voters to register and support their candidates.

Dennis Free, Chairman of the 2 nd Congressional District, reminded members of the convention on April 27 and the Virginia Convention on May 31 through June 1, 2024.

Committee assignments were made and the next meeting was announced for Thursday, May 16, at Fred’s. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Rev. Dean Jester of Hunterdale Christian Church closed the meeting with a prayer.
