Back in January when it initially appeared Paul Chryst may be the next Iowa OC, only to have Chryst opt to remain at Texas there was a lot of gnashing of the teeth among Hawkeye fans who seemed to think KF had blown it by not being able to close the deal with Chryst. At the time, I suggested we'd dodged a bullet, largely because of Chryst's poor recruiting history. There were several who told me recruiting didn't matter for an OC because Iowa had many members of the staff capable of taking up the slack. I disagreed at the time, and I think we're seeing why.
