Memorial Day weather forecast for Colorado includes possibility of showers

Memorial Day weekend, which is the unofficial start of summer, will see plenty of Coloradans heading to the mountains, grilling in the backyard and generally enjoying the outdoors.

With that in mind, here is a day-by-day look at the weather Saturday through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday forecast offers the best chance of rain

Saturday will see thunderstorms moving through the mountains as early as the morning with isolated and scattered showers and thunderstorm possible on the Front Range and Eastern Plains by the afternoon.

Most of that moisture will be north of Interstate 70.

Expect wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph along the east slope of the mountains and Front Range on Saturday evening as the system moves through.

Seasonal temperatures are expected.

Sunday and Monday will be drier but still could produce some storms

Some instability will remain with isolated late-day storms possible as the temperature warms Sunday and Monday.

Fort Collins forecast for Memorial Day weekend

• Saturday: 50% chance of precipitation between 11 a.m. and noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75 and north-northwest wind 5 to 11 mph becoming south in the afternoon, gusting as high as 18 mph. A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight with a low around 48.
• Sunday: 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 74 with west-northwest wind 11 to 16 mph, increasing to 18 to 23 mph in the afternoon with gusts to 32 mph. Nighttime low of around 45.
• Memorial Day (Monday): Sunny, with a high near 78 and low around 48.
