Suspects in Berthoud Dropped Water Balloons on Overpass, Police Say
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) is searching for suspects involved with a series of recent incidents in Berthoud. According to a Facebook post from LCSO, suspects have been throwing water balloons off the overpass on W County Road 10E, causing "significant damage" to six vehicles over the past few weeks.

Colorado couple hopes to prevent drownings with life jacket loaner station
Bill and Melissa O'Melia's son Drennan was just 12 years old when he died in a drowning accident in 2010. Now the couple hopes to prevent drownings in honor of their son. They started "Drennan's Dreams Foundation" which works to prevent drownings across Colorado and the nation. On Tuesday, they opened the Life Jacket Loaner station at Boyd Lake in Loveland. They created the station last summer which is a cabinet of different-sized life jackets that people can borrow and use for a day on the lake. "It was time for us to start giving back to Colorado. Last year in 2022, we had a record number of drownings in the state of Colorado," said Bill O'Melia. The couple hopes to start setting up life jacket loaner stations around the state.

Poudre School District employee charged with assaulting additional students after arrest
An employee with the Poudre School District who was arrested after allegedly hitting a kindergarten student is facing dozens more charges for allegedly assaulting more students. The employee, Tyler Zanella, was a Poudre School District paraprofessional who rode the school buses. Officers viewed the surveillance video from the school bus which investigators said showed Zanella, 36, hitting a kindergarten victim before his initial arrest last month. That victim in the initial case has disabilities. Colorado hiker hears hoax 'cry for help,' prompting multi-department emergency response
According to Poudre Fire Authority, which services the Fort Collins area, a multi-department search and rescue mission that took place on June 1 was the result of a hoax. At about 12:30 p.m., it was announced that an emergency response team was activated in Lory State Park in Bellvue after a hiker traveling down the popular Arthur's Rock Trail reported that they heard someone screaming for help.

Suspect flees authorities, spends six hours floating down river
FORT COLLINS, CO – A 31-year-old man in Fort Collins attempted to evade authorities after they had received several drug complaints by residents. Authorities were able to identify the man and found that he had seven active warrants, including a felony warrant. They witnessed him leave the area in a vehicle and attempted to pull him over. Police Arrest Suspect After River Standoff
On May 25, 2023 members of the Fort Collins Police NET (Neighborhood Engagement Team) were conducting patrols in an area that has received multiple drug complaints from area residents. Officers saw Michael Cortez (dob: 08/08/1991) who they knew to have 7 warrants for his arrest, 4 of which were felony warrants. Cortez got into a vehicle as a passenger and began to leave the area. At approximately 2:30 pm, officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 900 block of North Shields Street.
Loveland Police Officer Fired
As reported in the Greeley Tribune, a Loveland Police Department first year officer has been fired after allegedly “striking” a suspect after she was put into protective custody this weekend; a criminal investigation into the officer is now underway. At 8:30 a.m. Saturday LPD officers responded to a report of an adult woman wandering in and out of traffic and speaking incoherently in the area of North Garfield Avenue and East 29th Street, according to a release from the department. The woman was contacted, placed into protective custody and transported to Medical Center of the Rockies in east Loveland for further evaluation. Allegedly, the woman was verbally abusive to hospital staff and the officers on the scene and the officer struck the female in her face causing minor injury. The officer’s partner “immediately intervened,” removed him from the room and called for a supervisor to respond to the scene, the release said.
Larimer County Loveland Campus Building Closed Due to Public Safety Threat
On May 22, in response to a bomb threat, the Larimer County Loveland Campus was temporarily closed as a precautionary measure. A thorough investigation by local law enforcement agencies determined that the bomb threat was illegitimate and there was no imminent danger to the public or the building. During regular business hours, the Larimer County Loveland Campus will be reopened tomorrow, Tuesday, May 23.
