Plano runs past West in finale but misses playoffs on tiebreaker
PLANO – The Plano football team entered Friday’s regular-season finale still alive in the playoff hunt but needing a bit of help elsewhere in 7-6A. The Wildcats held up their end of the deal after distancing from Plano West late for a 28-14 victory from Clark Stadium, but the requisite aid didn’t materialize as Richardson Berkner clinched the final postseason berth out of the district following a 38-10 victory over Richardson Pearce. Friday’s win created a three-way for third place in the 7-6A standings at 4-3 between Plano, Plano East and Berkner – a scenario where the Wildcats were the odd team out due to point differential tiebreakers. “We did it to ourselves. We earned this position where you have to depend on other people,” said Cody White, Plano head coach. “You can’t do that in Texas, you have to take care of yourselves. It’s a good lesson to learn, and it’s frustrating because I’d love to see these seniors play another game.” While the result denied the Wildcats what would have been their first back-to-back playoff appearances since 2013-14, Friday still gave the program a winning note to conclude its 2026 campaign after overcoming a West program that had

Lovejoy holds off The Colony in defensive battle
LUCAS -- Junior quarterback Nixon Slaughter accounted for 259 yards of total offense and three touchdowns to lead the Lovejoy football team to a 21-14 win over The Colony in District 3-5A Division II action at Leopard Stadium Thursday night. In a contest featuring two playoff-bound programs and several of the area’s statistical leaders on offense, it was the defense on both sides that dictated the game, with four punts and three turnovers in the first half alone. The Colony (7-3, 3-3) took a 7-0 lead after a scoreless first quarter when senior quarterback Jayden Gaines raced in from 83 yards out with 4:52 remaining in the first half. Slaughter capped a 15-play, 75-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run to tie the score 7-7 late in the second quarter. After forcing another punt midway through the third quarter, Lovejoy (9-1, 5-1) took over near midfield. Junior Coleman Reaugh hauled in a 12-yard pass on third and long to give the Leopards a first down at The Colony’s 25-yard line. After another first down pass to Reaugh, Slaughter, the area’s seventh-leading passer, hit senior Brody Hesson for a six-yard touchdown pass with 4:41 left in the third quarter to give
