Shenandoah school board backs pay increases for administrators, directors
(Shenandoah) -- Pay increases are set for Shenandoah school officials for the upcoming school year. Meeting in regular session Monday evening, the Shenandoah School Board approved a 3.9% base salary increase for administrators, directors, and non-negotiated staff positions, equating to a roughly $66,000 package increase. The agreement also includes an additional $10,000 base wage increase for IGNITE Administrator Denise Green and an extra $3,000 bump for new Elementary Principal Jordan Newberg. Shenandoah School Superintendent Dr. Kerri Nelson tells KMA News that several factors helped determine the increases.
Sidney boys golf making first state tournament trip
(Sidney) -- After a few years of near misses, the Sidney boys golf team is about to make its first-ever trip to the Class 1A State Tournament. The Cowboys fell 33 strokes shy of qualifying in 2021, missed state by six strokes in 2022 and didn't reach districts in 2023. They finally got over the hump in 2024.

Sidney council tabs McCarthy Trenching for Filmore Street reconstruction
(Sidney) -- Sidney officials have selected a contractor for a major street reconstruction effort. Meeting in regular session Monday night, the Sidney City Council opened two bids on the Filmore Street Reconstruction Project and, by a 4-0 vote, accepted the McCarthy Trenching, LLC proposal for roughly $3.7 million. Plans call for reconstructing Filmore from the downtown square out to 292nd Street near city limits, installing new paving and sidewalk on the south side of the road, and replacing the underlying infrastructure. Steve Windish is with Ulteig, the company tabbed by the city oversee the development and bidding of the project. While over the engineer's estimate, Windish says both bids checked out an initial review from their company.
Public Meeting on Forney Lake Management set for June 4th
(Hamburg) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is hosting a public meeting to discuss past and future management of the 1,317-acre Forney Lake Wildlife Area in Fremont County. Staff with the Iowa DNR will give a presentation on Forney Lake, and then listen to comments and concerns from the public.

(Shenandoah) -- While customers at a local bank will see a new name on the building, officials say they can expect similar services. That's the message from First National Bank Shenandoah President Adam Wright and Northwest Bank President Joe Conover. As of Monday, First National Bank in Shenandoah merged with Northwest Bank. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Show" program Monday morning, Wright says while the name has changed, bank customers can expect the majority of their services to remain in place.
