Sidney council backs hiring water, wastewater superintendent by affidavit
(Sidney) -- Sidney officials have found a temporary solution for its water and wastewater superintendent position. Meeting in special session Thursday, the Sidney City Council, by a 3-1 vote, approved hiring former water/wastewater superintendent Chris Sokolowski to operate the city's water and wastewater facilities by affidavit. Hiring by affidavit was one of a few ways for the city to fill the vacancy initially left by Sokolowski's resignation, which would have been effective today (Friday). Iowa Administrative Code requires the city to have a grade two water treatment and water distribution operator and a grade one wastewater/lagoon operator. However, Sidney Mayor Justin Shirley says Sokolowski had offered to remain in place temporarily.
