'Do something greater.' Athens HS teen 3rd sibling to make Eagle Scout
Earning an Eagle Scout award is typically the pinnacle of a Scout's career, but for Holden McKeever, he was barely getting started. McKeever, from Bentley Creek in Bradford County and a senior at Athens Area High School, actually qualified for his Eagle rank three years ago when he was 14, but he didn't want recognition for it — at least not yet. "For me, it was something — I wanted to do something greater," said McKeever, now 17. "I still want to do something more. I didn't want that to be it." Some of McKeever's motivation might come from the fact that several other family members are Eagle Scouts — including his sister Abigail, who became the first girl from the Five Rivers Council to achieve that rank after the Boy Scouts of America (now known as Scouting America) started accepting girls as members.
