Positions on West Perry School Board filled
The West Perry School Board appointed a new member and selected a new president at its April 15 meeting. The need arose following the resignation of former President Dan Rice. Tina Magaro-Wierman was appointed to fill the Region III vacancy on a 7-0 vote. Ronald Spacht also had applied, but the board chose Magaro-Wierman in part due to a scheduling conflict which would have interfered with Spacht attending meetings regularly.
Citizens called on to serve in Howe Township
Howe Twp. needs citizens to fill critical government roles. There are vacancies on the planning commission and zoning hearing board. While the zoning seat has been open for months, the planning commission spot exists because of Eric Horting’s resignation. Horting stepped down due to work requirements. Broadband infrastructure funding is coming to the county. Zito and Brightspeed both submitted applications to the state and were awarded funding to bring service to unserved and underserved portions of the county. Commissioner Brenda Watson noted that this is only the first round of broadband funding, with larger grants becoming available through the federal Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program in the near future.
