Spangler Farm continues summer season on weekends through August 11th
Visitors to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center can shuttlebus to the George Spangler Farm & Field Hospital to explore the historic site throughout the remainder of the 2024 summer season. The historic site will continue to be open for the summer season of living history and programming on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 10 a.m. until 3:20 p.m. through Sunday, Aug. 11.

On the morning of July 21, 2024, Katrinka Sylvia Sipling, 68, of Abbottstown, PA, entered glory land while in her home surrounded by her loved ones.Katrinka lived most of her life in Hanover, PA and surrounding towns. As a young girl she enjoyed playing baseball with her brothers. Later in life she enjoyed going to carnivals, playing Bingo, lottery tickets, going on walks, and junking with her son and grandson. She also liked watching football but what she loved most, was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.She is survived by her children, Christina Sipling, Joseph Sipling and wife Geney, Brian Sipling and wife Gwen, and Melissa Sipling; grandchildren, Miah Blizzard and wife Anne, Zachary Sipling, Devin Sipling, Wyatt Sipling, Shayla Sipling, Dakota Esteep and husband Justin, Katie Sipling, Alexis Sipling, and Maddie Sipling; great-grandchildren, Austin and Ashton Blizzard, Jaxson and Adelyn Wenger, and Nollin Esteep; siblings, Jan Lehigh and wife Lisa, Timmy Lehigh, Terry Lehigh, Bev Lehigh, Sandy Lehigh, and Connie Montanari; along with many nieces and nephews of the Lehigh family whom she deeply loved.She was preceded in death by her mom, Irene Sylvia Lehigh and siblings, Earl, Jeff, Barry, Gordon, Brenda, and Ann Lehigh.Katrinka had a true love not only for people but animals as well. She leaves behind her pets Coco, Trixie, Daisey, Scooby, Tigger, Angel, and Patches.Funeral services are private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. John Richard Felix, 56, of Gettysburg, passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2024. He was the loving husband of Kathryn M. Felix for 27 years. Born January 16, 1968, in Johnstown, PA, he was the devoted son of Elaine Marie Michels and the late Ronald Herbert Felix.John’s greatest joys in life were spending time with his family, fishing, and going to the beach.In addition to his wife and mother, John is survived by his step daughter, Shannon Barnich; step son, William Barnich; grandchildren, Aiden Joyner, Constance Barnich, and Jacilyn Windsor; several nieces; nephews and his pride and joy, Jaci, his English bulldog.In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ron Felix.Services are private. Obituary: Charles ‘Chuck’ Comer
Harles E. âChuckâ Comer, 93 formerly of Fairfield, PA passed away at his home in Frisco, Texas on July 16, 2024. Born May 05, 1931 in Ladiesburg, Maryland, he was the son of the late Edward F. & Marie Pauline (Starner) Comer. Chuck is survived by his wife, Carol M. Comer, four children, Stanley and his wife Marsha, A. Dawn and her husband Michael, Michael and his wife Angela and Matthew and his wife Suzanne, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters, Glenda Coppage and her husband Dick and Iris Rieck and his sister-in-law, Mary Mahan and her husband Larry. He was predeceased a brother, Gary Miller and sister-in-law, Nancie Domin. Chuck worked as a professional bartender for 35 years at the former Fairfield Inn and Pimlico Hotel. He owned and operated Chuck Comerâs Preventive Maintenance for many years. Chuck was a member of St. Anthonyâs Shrine Catholic Church in Emmitsburg, MD, life member of the Knights of Columbus (4th degree) and served as a volunteer with the Adams County Drug and Alcohol Counseling and the Maryland Counseling Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg with Fr. Michael Pray, Celebrant. A private interment will follow the Mass in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 9:30-11:00 AM. The Comer family would like to thank Josephine Onditi and Lana Hawley for providing excellent and compassionate nursing care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Adams County SPCA, 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325 or Catholic Charities, 2050 Ballenger Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22314. Viola Mae (McGlaughlin) Miller, 89 of Gettysburg, PA passed away at the Gettysburg Hospital on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Born January 27, 1935 in Fairfield, PA she was the daughter of the late Ralph & Leila (Warren) McGlaughlin. Viola was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Jack R. Miller, who died December 06, 2015. She enjoyed knitting, tending to her garden and canning fruits and vegetables. The most important thing in her life was her family and the joy of spending time, caring for and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Viola will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her three children, Francis R. Miller (Karen) of Orrtanna, PA, Donna L. Cooper (Steve) Abbottstown, PA and Wendy A. Schubbe of Gettysburg, six grandchildren, Jason Miller (Jody), Justin Ryder (Kami), Rebecca Shartzer (Tommy), Allyson Mangum (Michael), Madyson Schubbe (Ryan Hanson) and Jackson Hilbert, six great grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Grayson, Leila, Taylor and Emma, a brother, Roger McGlaughlin (Sandy) of York Springs, PA and a sister, Shirley Thomas (Ron) of Gettysburg. In addition to her husband and parents, Viola was predeceased by a sister, Doris Miller and a brother, Edwin McGlaughlin. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg with Pastor Allen Hersh, officiating. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral services on Friday, August 2nd. Anna âAnnâ Louise (Davis) Deckert, 80 of Gettysburg passed away on July 20, 2024 at the Gettysburg Hospital after a long illness. Born on October 26, 1943 in Gettysburg, she was the second child of Betty Kroushour Leonard and Lester Davis. She was the wife of James H. Deckert of Gettysburg and mother of two sons, Bradley Deckert and Chad Deckert.

Windows Outage Affected Fewer Than First Thought
A major IT outage disrupted global travel plans over the weekend, though it affected fewer computers than initially feared. Microsoft revealed that a problematic software update from CrowdStrike impacted 8.5 million Windows devices, less than 1% of the total. Despite the relatively small number, the incident severely affected critical sectors, including airports, hospitals, and banks, leading to significant operational issues. The disruptions were particularly noticeable at airports, which continued to struggle through the weekend.
