Adams County Sports Update – April 18 2024
Gettysburg’s Tegan Kuhns took another star turn on the mound, striking out 12 over five innings, and Wes Coolbaugh finished up with two innings of no-hit, two-strikeout relief for the save in the Warriors’ road win. Wyatt Sokol and Nolan combined for four of Gettysburg’s six hits as they overcame a 1-0 lead after five innings. Carson Kuhns knocked in two of the Warriors’ runs. Lower Dauphin’s Ethan Duff turned in some fine mound work of his own, tossing six innings of four-hit, nine-strikeout ball.
Obituary: Roger Charles Steele
Roger Charles Steele, of Littlestown, PA., passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Barbara (Simms) Steele, for 54 years.Roger was born February 4, 1941 in Westernport, Md. He was the son of the late Charles C. Steele and Bertha (Leake) Steele.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephanie Ledford and husband, Eric; Stephan Steele and wife Melissa; grandchildren, Caitlin Steele and husband Ted DiSalvo, Cutter Steele, Seth Bussard and wife Becca; great grandchildren, Willow and Leighton Bussard.A life long student, Roger graduated from Frostburg University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education majoring in Biology and Ecology. He was a career science/biology teacher at Francis Scott Key High School in Union Bridge, Maryland for over 30 years. Because of his dedication to the environment, he was also a Director of the Adams County Conservation District for 17 years, and an PA Alternate Commissioner, the Interstate Commission of the Potomac River Basin for 19 years. Roger also participated locally on the Planning Commission and the Comprehensive Plan Committee for both Mt. Joy Township and Adams County.Roger worked in partnership with his wife and neighbors, for 38 years, at Alloway Creek Gardens. Roger and Barbara moved to the farm in the early 70’s. Working hard on the farm with a small herd of cattle as well as the greenhouse, Roger was proud of the farm’s recognition as a Chesapeake Bay Program Farm. He enjoyed life on the farm with family and friends as well as traveling to view giant redwoods, mountains and sea shores.Roger was an avid star-watcher, a collector of rocks, loved his kayak, travels to Chincoteague and most importantly spending time with family! He never took a bad photo, as he was always smiling. He provided a lifetime of wonderful memories and learning experiences for family and friends.A Celebration of Life and tree planting in his memory is being planned for June. 11th Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser is coming up
Plank Gym on the Gettysburg College Campus will again be the site of the Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser next Friday, April 26th, from 4-7 p.m. Hosted by The Gleaning Project, it brings together artists, businesses, restaurants, and philanthropists to make a meaningful impact in the fight against food insecurity and the need for nutritious produce to be available to community members in need.
Tuba Euphonium Concert
On Tuesday, April 23rd, at 5pm in the College Union Building Junction at Gettysburg College, the Gettysburg College’s Tuba-Euphonium ensemble will perform their spring concert. Come hear a wide variety of music ranging from The Cure to Smash Mouth and more! Free and open to the public.

Hollabaugh Family Farm is inviting everyone to join in the fun of their first annual Spring Blossom Event, set for April 27th, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Hollabaugh Bros., in conjunction with the National Apple Museum and Destination Gettysburg, will celebrate the bounty of color exploding throughout the county’s Blossom Belt. Come and enjoy the beautiful apple blossoms and scenery that Adams County has to offer, all while supporting local businesses and enjoying delicious food.
Juried Art Exhibition Celebrates 20th Anniversary with a Toast to the Artists
The Juried Art Exhibition celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and once again, a stunning exhibit is planned at Gettysburg College’s Schmucker Art Gallery for the month of June. Juror, Jessica Ambler, PhD, Director of the Martin Art Gallery at Muhlenberg College, has chosen 47 pieces for the exhibit, which will be open from June 1-21, Monday through Saturday, 10 am–4 pm (closed Sundays). A reception and awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 8 from 5-7 pm, with awards presented at 6 pm. This reception is free and open to the public.

Adams County Wants Your Input on Future of Cross Keys Corridor
The Adams County Transportation Planning Organization (ACTPO) is seeking public comment on a study focused on the future of the Cross Keys Corridor. The study area includes PA 94 from Dicks Dam Road to Hanover Street, as well as a portion of US Route 30 from Lincoln Street to Stanley Drive, according to a press release from ACTPO. The area is the focus of concerns from Berwick, Hamilton, and Oxford townships, according to the release, citing safety concerns and potential economic and land use impacts from future development.
The FBI Is Investigating The Francis Scott Key Bridge Accident
The FBI has intensified its investigation into the catastrophic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. Federal agents are probing whether the crew of the cargo ship Dali was aware of pre-existing system malfunctions before departing from the port. On March 26, the Dali, suffering from a sudden power outage, veered uncontrollably and crashed into the iconic bridge. The devastating impact resulted in the bridge’s destruction and the tragic deaths of six construction workers who were on-site.
