An Eden Prairie apartment resident has been arrested for suspected mail theft after taking packages from his building's mailroom.

Police were called to an apartment complex on April 16 by a manager who said a package had been taken.

"Earlier that day a resident had told the manager she was missing a package," the department said. "When the manager went into the mailroom, he noticed several packages had been opened."

Video footage of the mailroom identified the culprit as a resident of the complex, who was observed entering the mailroom wearing a full face mask, and is observed opening around 15 packages, leaving the room with eight.

Two days later police obtained a search warrant for the suspect's apartment, and found an item of clothing that the man was wearing during the theft.

"In addition, they found an empty Amazon box with a different apartment number on it and the item missing from the original theft complaint," police said.

The suspect was arrested and is facing two felony counts of mail theft.
