Authorities in Cortlandville look to ID coffee shop burglar
ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Investigators in Cortland County are asking for help identifying a suspect in a burglary. Authorities say the masked individual pictured below broke into the Cortlandville Dunkin Donuts between November 10 and 11 and stole cash. Anyone who recognizes the person or has information relevant to the investigation is asked to contact the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office at (607)-758-5548.

Another Building on Main Street Looks to Upgrade Exterior
During the City of Cortland Planning Commission meeting yesterday evening at City Hall, plans to renovate the exterior of another Main Street building were presented. The address of the building is 77-79 Main Street. Co-owner of the property, Keith Fox was present to give a brief description of the project. The building will completely renovate one of the storefronts on the property which currently has the vintage clothing store, Lot 1 Vintage. The plans show the removal of the brick and installation of larger glass windows (similar to the storefront next door). The project also calls for a paint job for the entire building, and new exterior lighting. Work will also include new signage for the tenants and three condensers in the rear of the building.

An Upstate New York cop who survived a shooting on the job more than a decade ago has been named Ithaca’s new police chief. The City of Ithaca announced Monday that Thomas Kelly, a lieutenant in the Schenectady Police Department, will take over as chief of the Ithaca Police Department on Dec. 18. The appointment is contingent on the city council’s Dec. 6 vote after interviewing two finalists for the position and considering input from the department, the search committee, and community members.

Looking forward to 2024, there are a number of issues facing the City of Ithaca that will have consequences for the rest of the county. At the recent meeting of the Ithaca Community Police Board, Acting Chief Ted Schwartz fielded a number of questions from board members relating to the state of the department and conditions at the Arthaus apartments in Ithaca’s West End and the new Marketview Apartments across from Aldi Grocery. Both locations have become the site of frequent calls for police and first responder assistance. It was remarked that these buildings amount to “The Jungle” with a roof on them.
