Former Mariner basketball star Teddy Dupay enters FHSAA Hall of Fame
Teddy Dupay has had his name etched in Florida high school boys basketball record books for nearly 30 years and on Sunday, the former Mariner High and and Florida Gators star will be officially honored for a historic career that has stood the test of time. The Tritons alumnus (Class of 1998) and former McDonald's All-American will be one of eight inductees in the Florida High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame's 36th class on Sunday, Sept. 20 in Gainesville. "The thing that is most touching to me, is (recognizing) the people that filled out applications and submitted my name to be inducted... it means a lot to me and my family," Dupay said. Dupay expressed his gratitude as well towards former Mariner boys basketball coach Tim Maloney, who coached the Tritons from 1993-1996. The former Southwest Florida Coach of the Year played a key role not just in convincing Dupay to play for Mariner High School, but also to focus on basketball, having already shown plenty of promise in baseball, football and tennis − sports in which a 5-foot-11 male athlete would traditionally have better chances of having a professional career. GHS AD Phillip Knight confirmed the news on Friday, Sept. 18, in a text to the Gainesville Sun . The first-year head coach will not be on the sidelines for the Hurricanes' rivalry game vs. Eastside. Noah Doubt About It: Week 5 Gainesville area high school football picks
We have nearly reached the midpoint of the Gainesville area high school football season. Yet, questions remained unanswered. How good is Buchholz truly after three easy wins? Can Newberry consistently stay above .500? Can Santa Fe bury past rivalry demons for a second time this season? There’s, of course, also newer questions for this week…like how will Hawthorne look without Richard Roundtree? Regardless, I can’t wait for this week. Let’s pick some games! Last week, Noah Doubt About It improved big time to a 14-1 record for a 44-19 mark in the 2026 season. Good luck to all! Hawthorne (4-0) at Bradenton-Bayshore (3-1) The first game without Richard Roundtree brings the Hornets down to Manatee County. The Bruins hold an impressive 3-1 record, but when you look at who they’ve beaten, it’s not nearly as solid as Hawthorne. The Hornets are motivated to proof it can remain competitive without their star QB, and that’ll show for the first time down south. Prediction : Hawthorne 23, Bradenton-Bayshore 0 Newberry (2-2) at Middleburg (2-2) This is just a flat-out competitive game, and the Panthers better not underestimate the Broncos – who have been a consistent playoff team. Still, I think Newberry understands
