University of Florida reinstates College Republicans
The University of Florida restored the College Republicans chapter as a student organization after months of legal battles and free speech violation allegations. The university initially disbanded the chapter in March after it said it was alerted of a photo showing a student performing a Nazi salute. But that wasn't the reason it was disbanded, according to UF's attorneys in a lawsuit by the chapter earlier this year. Instead, it was because Florida law required a university chapter to have authorization from the state's Republican party. Within six months, the chapter took the university to court, lost and then got accepted to be a student organization soon after the beginning of the fall semester. Their court bid was one of many across Florida testing the bounds of the First Amendment at universities, but a federal judge ruled in June that the chapter was violating UF policy by using the "Republican" name without approval from the state party or other state federation. On X, the UF College Republicans announced Sept. 14 that they're now restored as a registered student organization, calling it a "total and complete victory." "We're back," the statement said. "We never negotiated it away. We never apologized for

Krishna House creates pickup program after UF agreement terminated
After the University of Florida ended its 55-year relationship with the Hare Krishna organization and its on-campus lunch program last month, the group has now launched Krishna-To-Go , a new program that will allow customers to preorder meals for pickup at designated campus locations. Krishna House board member and current senior adviser Bob Cohen told The Sun in a Sept. 11 email that this "separate venture" will help fill the frequent requests from students, alumni, parents, and friends who still enjoy Krishna lunch. Under the new program, Krishna House will follow all requirements for serving UF students on campus, and allow the public to pre-order the same affordable vegetarian meals through designated campus pickup locations. "We are trying to keep the meals traditionally affordable and avoid the large fees that are often added by third-party delivery platforms such as DoorDash and Grubhub. DoorDash and Grubhub are still available as options for students who want delivery to their own locations," Cohen said. "Krishna-To-Go is different because it is operated directly by our team and brings prepaid orders to designated pickup points on campus." In a follow-up email on Sept. 11, Krishna House President Adi Syama said the organization will not cook
