If you love ice cream and you’re a dog, this one’s for you. Marquita Richardson started Sweet Paws Creamery to give our four-legged friends some sweet treats. The mobile ice cream cart offers three handmade dairy- and sugar-free flavors just for dogs, taste tested by its “chief paw officer” and Richardson’s dog, Colby J .

“I made treats for him to celebrate his birthday, but that was the only time he got big treats,” Richardson said. “In my mind, I was going to get an ice cream cart and hang out downtown handing out ice cream to dogs … but as I continued to build it out and think it through, it truly became this calling.”

Sweet Paws Creamery soft launched April 20 and 21 at Brewery Faisan and The Congregation. Richardson said she plans to be at several events this year, including Canine to Five in Detroit on May 21, Frankenmuth Dog Bowl during Memorial Day weekend and Bark on Biddle in Wyandotte sometime in May. Prices should be around $5, Richardson said.

“It took me a year to get to day one,” Richardson said. “It’s just all the things that I love, all the things that make me happy.”
