Owatonna woman charged with DWI following crash that seriously injured young girl

An Owatonna woman has been charged with gross misdemeanor criminal vehicular operation and two counts of gross misdemeanor DWI following a crash that reportedly resulted in a young girl being airlifted to Rochester with serious injuries. On Aug. 14, the Steele County Sheriff’s Department received reports of a rollover crash near mile marker 34 on Interstate 35 north in which a vehicle had flipped over and pinned a juvenile female underneath. The juvenile was rescued from beneath the vehicle by bystanders while rescue personnel were en route but was said to have been turning blue and spitting blood. Police said deputies observed a child lying on her back in great pain with blood and bruising on her arms and face, and an indentation from the roof of the vehicle across her abdomen. The girl was reportedly experiencing extreme pain in her abdomen and head, which prompted deputies to fit her with a C-collar. Paramedics arrived and provided on-site care and the child was taken by helicopter to Mayo Clinic in Rochester. The driver of the vehicle, Calli Mae Olson, 40, of 8087 23rd Ave. in Owatonna, reportedly told deputies that she had been going 25 to 30 mph and the

Football playoff edition: Dean’s return sparks Cougars

Rosemount will get a rematch with STMA Griffen Dean came back just in time to keep Lakeville South’s football season alive. The senior, who led the Cougars in rushing in 2025, had been out of the lineup since late September because of an injury. Lakeville South’s first-round Class 6A playoff game against Anoka on Oct. 30 was his first game back and he scored three touchdowns, including the one that put South ahead to stay in a 51-47 victory. Anoka led 47-44 with a little more than two minutes to play and Lakeville South at its own 28-yard line. On third down the Cougars threw their only pass of the game, with Colby Olsen finding Dean open over the middle. Dean caught the pass, raced to the sideline and scored. It was the final big play in a game that featured many of them. The teams combined for six touchdowns in the first quarter of a football game turned track meet, and there were four touchdowns in the fourth quarter. North faces Eagan on Saturday in first all-SSC girls soccer final In a first for the South Suburban Conference, two of its teams will play for a state girls soccer championship Saturday. Eagan, seeking a fourth state championship, and Lakeville North, going for its first, meet in the Class 3A final at 8 a.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium. The winner becomes the SSC’s fifth state girls soccer winner since the league started in 2010, joining Eagan teams in 2024, 2015 and 2017, and the 2022 Rosemount squad. Lakeville North defeated Mounds View 2-1 on penalty kicks and Eagan scored in the second half to beat Duluth East 1-0 in the Class 3A semifinals Thursday, setting up the state championship duel between South Suburban teams. Lakeville North, the No. 1 seed in the state tournament, defeated Eagan 2-0 in a regular-season game Sept. 14.
