UPDATED: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for parts of Collin, Dallas, Ellis, Fannin, Rockwell, and Kaufman County until 11 p.m. Thursday.

North Texas faces a severe weather risk late Thursday afternoon into the early evening hours. The likely timeframe of the storms is from 4-8 p.m., but only about 40% coverage is expected.

A cold front entered the Texas Panhandle early Thursday and will arrive in Dallas-Fort Worth by late afternoon into the evening hours. Areas southeast of a line stretching from Sherman to the Mid Cities to Granbury have a risk for severe storms. Large hail and damaging wind will be the threats.

Afternoon highs Thursday warm into the mid to upper 80s, but we'll wake up Friday morning to readings in the low to mid-50s with a north wind at 10-15 mph. Clouds will be hard-pressed getting out of here Friday afternoon, keeping afternoon highs near 60 degrees.

The next system will start to affect North Texas as early as late Friday evening when numerous showers and isolated storms develop. Widespread showers with some thunder will affect the area most of the day on Saturday. This rain will continue off and on through the evening hours before pressing south Sunday morning. Average rainfall totals will be between 1-2 inches, with heavier totals south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 50s all day long.

The rain presses to the south Sunday morning, with a slow decrease in clouds by afternoon. Most areas will have highs near 60 degrees and slightly warmer north of DFW.

Monday and Tuesday look downright gorgeous. Plenty of sunshine with highs in the low 70s Monday, near 80 on Tuesday. Our next weather change arrives on Wednesday with rain chances returning along our next cold front.
