The National Weather Service has confirmed ten tornadoes hit North and Central Texas during severe weather Friday.

Four tornadoes hit McLennan County. The National Weather Service estimates wind speeds in those storms reached 75 to 115 miles an hour.

Two tornadoes with wind speeds of 95 and 105 miles an hour hit Hill County.

Four tornadoes hit Navarro County with wind speeds between 75 and 110. Two tornadoes in Navarro County struck near the town of Frost.

One home in Frost was destroyed.

"It was very scary," one woman whose home was not damaged said. "We got the kids into the bathroom, which is the innermost part of my house, and I sat in there with a friend of mine and my two grandchildren while my husband monitored the weather on the television, his phone and the scanner."

She says she was glad no one in her family or the home that was hit was injured.

"My heart sunk in my chest. I was very grateful God had His protection around me and my family," she says.

Monday afternoon, FM 667 leading out of Frost to the north was closed. That was the area hit by one of the tornadoes.

The U.S. Census says Frost's population was 620 people in 2020. People who live there say the small community ensures neighbors will look out for those dealing with damage.

"That's the neat thing about our community," she says. "There were so many people who were just ready to reach out and make sure everybody was okay."

"We're a very faith-based community, and I think God had His hand on so many of us that day," another woman says.
