Deep East Texas counties report blocked roadways, power outages
DEEP EAST TEXAS (KTRE) - Several counties in Deep East Texas have reported flooded areas and power outages after weekend storms. According to TxDOT Lufkin around 5 a.m. Monday, Houston County has experienced flooding on FM 229 at Hurricane Bayou and FM 227 at Bracken and San Pedro creeks. The far right lane of SH 21 East has also been closed due to a slope failure about one mile west of the Cherokee County line.

Storm knocks out power to 5,000 deep East Texas residents
CENTER, Texas (KTAL/KSHV) – Five thousand customers lost power as a powerful storm moved through deep East Texas Sunday night. The storm broke several poles, knocking out power to large parts of Panola, Shelby, and Nacogdoches Counties. The Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative said the outages affected an area stretching from Carthage down to the Toledo Bend area and west of Nacogdoches.

Crews respond to oil tank explosion south of Troup
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - An oil tank exploded Saturday afternoon, and crews responded to put out the flames. The incident took place at about 1 p.m. on CR 4703, according to Smith County ESD 2 Community Outreach Coordinator Nikki Simmons. Firemen said the tank was fully engulfed with flames when they arrived.
Jacksonville roper places at 3 weekend rodeos
JACKSONVILLE, Texas (KLTV) - A team roper from Jacksonville took home winnings from three shows over the weekend. Jayse Tettenhorst, 21, placed first in round one at the Tops in Texas Rodeo in Jacksonville for $1,106. He went on to place second in round one at the Panola County Cattleman’s Rodeo in Carthage for another $931, and with a previous sixth place prize of $200 at the Crockett Lions Club PRCA Rodeo, his weekend total was $2,237.
