Smyrna seeks feedback on proposed Chattahoochee River pedestrian bridge
Smyrna is exploring the feasibility of a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Chattahoochee River. The bridge would be located near Riverview Landing, between Interstate 285 and Highway 78, connecting Cobb and Fulton counties. It would be part of the 100-mile Chattahoochee RiverLands Trail vision by the Georgia Trust for Public Land. “The bridge could improve connections between existing and planned trail systems while creating new opportunities for recreation, mobility, and access to the river,” the survey reads. In October, officials cut the ribbon on a half-mile section of RiverLands Showcase Trail in Smyrna, which the bridge would tie into. The trail section, located at Riverview Landing in Smyrna’s Riverview Park, a 12-acre linear park along the Chattahoochee, completes the northern portion of the Cobb RiverLands Showcase Project. The showcase begins in Discovery Park, running through Riverview Landing to a trailhead across the Chattahoochee from Proctor Creek. As part of a feasibility study for the bridge, the survey seeks input on project priorities, potential uses and the role the bridge could play in the community.
