Habersham Co. Landfill will cease accepting Construction and Demolition Materials on Feb. 29
As announced in December, the Habersham County Landfill will stop accepting construction and demolition materials at the close of business on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024. A study received by the county in 2023 indicated that by not allowing construction and demolition materials into the municipal solid waste cell, the life of the landfill could be extended by about a dozen years. Closing the construction and demolition cell at the end of this month also will allow room for the demolition debris from the old Habersham County Courthouse on Monroe Street in downtown Clarkesville when it is removed. There are alternative facilities in Habersham, Hall, and Franklin counties that accept construction and demolition debris, the closest being a few miles from the landfill near Mt. Airy. This message has been communicated through the media, signage, social media posts, and contact with regular construction and demolition users. For questions about the upcoming change, contact the Habersham County Landfill at 706-839-0242.
