Retro Report: The opening of Walmart and its effect on local business
Twenty-four years before Chick-fil-A opened on East State Street, people were standing a few hundred feet away protesting another national chain: Walmart. When the Walmart Supercenter opened in 2002, its arrival came after years of pushback from Athens residents concerned about what a retailer of its size could mean for local businesses and the city around them. Today, Walmart is a normal part of East State Street. Chick-fil-A is its newest neighbor.

Heath passing game heated up in Week 11 rally
HEATH - The Heath football team needed contributions from its entire lineup to rally in Week 11, and that was nowhere more apparent than in its receiving corps. Five players caught at least two passes as the Bulldogs rallied from a 15-0 halftime deficit to beat host Fairfield Union 22-21 in a Division IV, Region 15 first-round game. With the Falcons keying on star tailback Tristyn Jones, the Bulldogs went to the air to advance. “This gives us a lot (of confidence),” junior quarterback Ethan Grise said. “At halftime, we talked about putting something together. We knew we couldn’t come out flat, or else this game would end like the end of the first half. We knew we had to string something together, and we trust our guys.” No. 10 Heath (8-3) plays No. 2 New Lexington (9-1) at 7 p.m. Nov. 6. The Panthers, who were regional finalists last season, started 9-0 before losing to rival Sheridan 43-36 in their regular-season finale. The best part of Grise’s targets is the variety of skill sets. Freshman Kylen Watson, who has emerged as a big-play threat since being inserted into the varsity lineup at midseason, took a screen pass 20 yards
