Paxton Police Blotter: Pair from Texas nabbed with drugs in traffic stop
PAXTON — The Paxton Police Department released the following list of recent activity:. — Mara E. Hinojosa, 31, of Cedar Park, Texas, and Joseph F. Wilson, 25, of Gatesville, Texas, were each arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal transportation of adult-use cannabis during a traffic stop in the 200 block of East State Street around 5:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29. Hinojosa was charged additionally with permitting an unauthorized person to drive, while Wilson was charged additionally with driving with no valid driver’s license and operating an uninsured vehicle. The traffic stop was conducted after Paxton police were called to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the back of the parking lot of NAPA Auto Parts, 100 W. Ottawa Road, finding upon arrival the two Texas residents inside a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe that was facing south. They told police they were waiting there for someone to bring them cash to buy fuel. When asked by police to provide their driver’s licenses, Hinojosa and Wilson said neither had a license, but each provided an identification card. After police confirmed neither was wanted on a warrant, police left the parking lot and drove a couple of blocks away, from where they witnessed the Tahoe leave the lot minutes later. Police stopped the vehicle on State Street just east of Railroad Avenue, knowing that neither occupant had a valid license to drive. During the traffic stop, the Ford County Sheriff’s Office canine was called to assist, giving police a positive alert to the presence of drugs in the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the presence of about 1.8 grams of methamphetamine, 1 gram of cannabis, a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine, a pipe used for smoking cannabis, and scales used for weighing drugs. Both Hinojosa and Wilson were arrested and taken to the Ford County Jail in Paxton, and the vehicle was seized by police under city ordinance.

On the morning of Feb. 25, a Bradley student flagged down a BUPD officer patrolling campus. The student told the officer they had just come from Saddle Up Dance Club, where they were battered by a non-Bradley-affiliated individual. Around 3 a.m., the student and aggressor engaged in a consensual arm wrestling match, which the aggressor won. Subsequently, the student told the aggressor that “the only reason [they] won the match was because [they] went against three other [people] before.” The aggressor allegedly became enraged before grabbing the student by their shirt collar and thrusting their head against a pole in the bar. The officer located the aggressor parked in their vehicle near the St. James Apartment Complex; they were visiting friends who are Bradley students. Officers arrested the aggressor and charged them with battery. They were transported to the Peoria County Jail and released the following morning with a notice to appear in court.
