Man sentenced to jail for suspended-license driving

Towanda, Pa. — A Mainesburg man will be serving jail time for driving while his license was suspended, the Bradford County District Attorney's Office announced. Jeffery B. Gilbert, 37, was sentenced to six months to a year in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for driving while license suspended, a third-degree misdemeanor, the DA's office said. Trooper Jason Goss of the Pennsylvania State Police charged Gilbert after investigating an incident in July 2025. Gilbert was also charged in relation to a similar incident that took place in December that year. A Mansfield-area officer stopped Gilbert on Dec. 23, 2025, speeding in his Chevy Silverado and towing a car hauler, ran a red light near Lamb’s Creek Road at an unsafe speed for the weather conditions, according to the Wellsboro Gazette . Gilbert allegedly admitted his license was suspended and the truck had no insurance, and police found his license had expired in 2023, the truck and trailer were registered to two different people, and the trailer had faulty lights and no breakaway cable.

Northern Tier counties support GOP candidates

With turnout at 55.24% in Tioga County and 56.53% in Potter, area voters bucked the blue wave to support GOP candidates. Tioga County’s 41 precincts collected ballots from 14,845 registered voters while Potter County’s 32 precincts had 6,241, according to unofficial results posted on the websites from the Nov. 3 General Election.

Three jailed after CSAM investigation in Bradford and Potter counties

Bradford and Potter counties, Pa. — Three northern tier men are jailed on numerous child sex abuse material (CSAM) charges after a multi-agency investigation. From Thursday, Oct. 29, through Wednesday, Nov. 4, state police's Northeast Computer Crime Task Force (NECCTF) conducted Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) operations in Bradford and Potter Counties. The operation aimed at identifying offenders involved in the possession, distribution, and production of CSAM. During this operation, NECCTF executed three residential search warrants. Eight National Center Missing and Exploited Children cyber-tips were investigated and closed out. The three search warrants led to the following arrests: Brian Scott Nicholls, 38, of Leroy is charged with 13 counts of third-degree felony sexual abuse of children possession and one count of criminal use of communication facility. Aaron Gary Hovan, 52, of Athens is charged with 30 counts each of second- and third-degree felony sexual abuse of children possession. Logan Matthew Benson of Coudersport is charged with 10 counts of second-degree felony sexual abuse of children possession, two counts of third-degree felony sexual abuse of children possession, and one count of criminal use of communication facility. Troy woman allegedly drives with kids on roof

Troy, Pa. — A Bradford County woman was charged, not with driving under the influence, but for driving under two children riding on top of her van's roof. During the afternoon of Oct. 24, Canton Police Officer Casey C. Shiposh received a report of two children riding on top of a van going west on East Second Street. The officer was initially unable to find the van and went to the caller's home to gather more information. There, the caller showed police a video of 49-year-old Dawn Borges of Troy driving a red and white van down the street with two young boys on its roof, Shiposh said. Police asked the caller and their spouse whether they believed it was possible Borges didn't know the children were on top of the vehicle while she was driving. The couple said they saw Borges speaking to the children while they were on the roof before she got in the van and began driving. Shiposh determined the vehicle in question was a 2008 Nissan Quest owned by Borges. The children, aged 8 and 11, on the van's roof were identified, and police were able to contact the parents of both juveniles and advise
