Cowboys win Wally Ciochetti Invitational

The Crook County High School track & field squad tuned up for district Friday afternoon at the Wally Ciochetti Invitational in Cottage Grove.

The Cowboys took first in the 15-team meet, finishing with 127 points to outdistance second place Henley, 108.7, and third place Cottage Grove, 57.5. The Cowgirls also had a solid meet, finishing in fifth place with 65 points. Philomath won the girls meet with 85 points, while North Bend was second, 77.5, Bandon third, 71, and Marist fourth, 69.5.

Gabe Love and Eli Oelkers were both double winners for Crook County, as Love won both the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.00, and the javelin with a throw of 178-00 while Oelkers won the long jump, 21-06, and the triple jump, 42-04.5.

Other Cowboys to place on the track include Julian Lopez, fourth in the 100 and second in the 200, and Adam Radabaugh and Kiernan Teasdale, sixth and eighth in the 800, respectively. Radabaugh was also third in the 1,500 meter, while Gavin Humphreys was second in the 3,000. Oelkers was also fourth in the 110 hurdles and second in the high hurdles. The Cowboys also placed in both relays as Cooper Nelson, Love, Jace Jonas and Lopez finished second in the 4x100 relay and Radabaugh, Teasdale, Lopez and Jonas finished fifth in the 4x400 relay.

In the throws, Aiden Gulseth took third in the shot put and the discus, while Michael Estes was fifth in the shot put, while Luke Grogan finished fourth in the javelin.

In the jumps, Alexander Jarrell finished sixth in the high jump while Gabriel Lopez finished eighth in the long jump and Jonas finished third in the triple jump.

No Cowgirls won events, however, the team had three second-place finishes. Natalia Crass finished second in both the 400 and 800 to lead the way for the Cowgirls, while Emily Rice took second in the pole vault.

In the sprints, Salma Sacco finished fourth in the 100, while Chantai George was eighth in the 200 and Chalis Bueckert took fifth in the 800. Ruby Snider took fourth in the 1,500, while the Cowgirl 4x100 relay team of Dylanne Smith, Crass, George and Sacco finished fourth and Onia Segura Lopez, Bueckert, June Conner and Crass finished seventh in the 4x400 relay.

In the field, Sammy Miller took sixth in the shot put, while Lucy Brooks was third in the discus. Sacco tied for sixth in the high jump, while Jane Rice finished third in the pole vault and Conner finished sixth in the long jump.

Crook County competes in the Tri-Valley Conference District Championships Friday and Saturday at Gladstone High School.
