The 7-foot boa constrictor reported missing Oct. 5 in rural North Carolina has been found, and it managed to slither about a mile in four weeks, according to searchers. Hoke County Animal Shelter in Raeford confirmed the recovery in a Nov. 4 social media post, noting the snake was found by a homeowner and removed by an animal wrangler known as “Mountain Matt” George. “We are happy to report that this slithery escape artist is safely secured and officially on its way home,” the shelter wrote. Farmer Richard Wood is credited with cornering the snake on his property, after initially mistaking it for a missing fence post, Carolina Weekly News reports. The location is a poultry farm, and the snake was found lounging out in the open, near manure pile, George said in a video shared on social media. “The snake was not harmed by the cold weather. It’s in good health,” he says. “I can’t tell if it has eaten recently, but it’s sure not in bad condition.” Boa constrictors are not native to the United States and do not tolerate cold weather.
