The IHSA girls state tennis tournament rolled into the second day for one singles player and one doubles team in Class 1A from the Rockford-area qualifiers, while the rest saw it all come to an end sometime during the day on Thursday, Oct. 22. Hawaiʻi is about to travel 4,255 miles for college football’s strangest conference game
Whether it’s Miami complaining about a trip to Stanford or Southern California grumbling about a cross-country trek to Rutgers , college football’s expansive and largely unnecessary conference realignment has created travel headaches from coast to coast. But none of those inconveniences can hold a candle to what Hawai'i is about to do. The Rainbow Warriors are accustomed to marathon trips to the mainland. This one, however, is particularly absurd: Hawaiʻi will travel from Honolulu to DeKalb, Illinois, to face Northern Illinois in a Mountain West conference game. Hayes: Ohio State has one move left to save its season — Ryan Day must rehire Ryan Day Exclusive: James Madison lost another coach. Its winning machine never blinked The 4,255-mile trip will be the farthest any FBS team has traveled to play a conference game in the United States. Long-distance travel is nothing new for Hawaiʻi, which sits roughly 2,400 miles from the continental U.S. The Rainbow Warriors have made 25 trips of more than 4,000 miles for games. What makes this one different is why Hawaiʻi is traveling so far. Its first game in Illinois will come in Week 8 because, somehow, Northern Illinois is now a conference opponent. Chalk it

How to watch Oregon vs. Illinois: Time, TV channel, streaming
The Oregon Ducks will be back in action on Saturday against the Illinois Fighting Illini , looking to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive. The Fighting Illini enter the game with a 3-3 record having gone 1-2 in the Big Ten — but that's with starting quarterback Katin Houser at the helm. He suffered an injury in their last game against Michigan State, forcing true freshman three-star Michael Clayton II into action for the first start of his career. Clayton will have a reliable receiver on the outside to throw to in Collin Dixon, amidst a breakout season and becoming known as one of the top wide receivers in the country. A physical offensive line helps as well, but the Oregon defensive line will try to stymy the Fighting Illini's run game from even getting off the ground. Offensively, issues have been abound for the Ducks in the last two weeks. They'll try to turn the corner in Week 8 with Dylan Raiola at quarterback, earning the starting nod after leading a come-from-behind win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers last week. Indians overcome slow start to salt away Pretzels in finale
ROCKTON — False start, Hononegah. Five yards. Repeat first down. Wait, wrong sport. But right idea. The Hononegah volleyball team had a slow start on Senior Night before rallying for a 25-18, 25-12 sweep over Freeport in the final match of the 2026 regular season. Freeport got off to a 12-2 start in the first set before the Indians settled into a rhythm and eventually won going away. The second set, with momentum firmly on the Indians side, was barely a contest. The Indians (20-15, 14-4 in NIC-10 play) will now move onto the postseason, where they will have the advantage of hosting the IHSA Class 4A regional. That wasn’t something that was possible when the Indians played across the hall from the fieldhouse, where the ceilings were too low for postseason hosting capabilities. “It’s nice that we can hopefully get a few more families here and a few more students here to watch,” Hononegah coach Kaylee Libby said. “Our freshman and JV kids can come without having to ride the bus and maybe take a long drive. And it just makes the week a little shorter, just taking out that commuting time.” Libby said that while the slow start
