Thursday Morning Fire at Cindy's on 34 Extinguished Quickly
Smoke and flames were reportedly seen coming from the kitchen of Cindy's on 34 restaurant in Mendota early Thursday morning. Given the fact that Cindy's on 39 in Oglesby had been gutted by fire in April, any anxiety would be forgiven. Fortunately, Thursday morning's incident was taken care of before first responders even got to the scene.
Aggravated Battery Charge Sends Ottawa Woman To Prison
After admitting to getting rough with a first responder, an Ottawa woman was sentenced to prison. Thirty-eight-year-old Carly Cavanaugh was sentenced Thursday to 3 years in prison after pleading guilty to the felony crime of aggravated battery to a peace officer. She was initially arrested and charged for the crime in December.
Medical Helicopter Called After Pallet Reportedly Falls On Menards Customer
A scary scene at Menards in Peru. First responders were called to the store off of Route 251 just past 11 o'clock Wednesday morning about a pallet falling on a customer. Dispatch reports mentioned a leg injury with the victim having difficulty breathing. A Life Flight helicopter has been requested to assist.

La Salle County Grand Jury Indicts Two on Gun Charges
A Kankakee County man has been indicted in La Salle County on a felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. On September 9, Illinois State Police stopped 36-year-old Joshua Burns of Pembroke Township. He's out on bail and due back in court for arraignment in about a month.
Life Flight Responds to Rollover Accident East of Grand Ridge
A single-vehicle rollover east of Grand Ridge brought out a Life Flight helicopter Wednesday afternoon. According to dispatch reports that started coming in at about 2:25, a 55-year old man had been trapped in the vehicle, but was able to get out. His injuries were severe enough to summon the air transport to the scene. Dispatch reported another victim who'd been ejected from the vehicle. No word on that person's condition.
Ottawa Man Indicted For Attempted Murder
A La Salle County Grand Jury believes an attempted murder case against an Ottawa man should proceed. Thirty-three-year-old Anthony Brito is believed to have fired upon another vehicle Sept 13th near La Salle and Main in Ottawa. Nobody ended up being injured. Prosecutors believe Brito shot at a witness involved in a separate drug charge that he's facing in La Salle County.

La Salle police are noting an increase in vehicle burglaries and attempted thefts. Police Chief Mike Smudzinski says a number of vehicles – in the past week - have been entered, but thieves appear to be targeting KIAs. Detectives are investigating and patrols are increasing. Camp offers crash course to teens about welding and careers in skilled trades
Odds are most teenagers don’t want to spend any of their summer break at a community college campus, even if it is only for a week. But in late June, that is exactly what a dozen teenagers did at Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) in Oglesby, Ill. For one week, they received a crash course in welding as part of the SPARK! IVCC Jr. Welding Academy, one of several summer manufacturing camps funded by the Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs Foundation (NBT), the official foundation of the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association.
