The city of Ottawa hosted a town hall meeting Wednesday about the health care system's proposal for a downsized hospital presence in that community.
Utility crew in southwest suburbs finds human remains while digging trench: police
YORKVILLE, Ill. - A contractor crew found something very unexpected while doing utility work in Yorkville earlier this week. The crew was working Wednesday in the 200 block of Park Street. As they were digging a trench to repair water pipes, they found what they believed to be human remains, according to Yorkville Police Department.
Grundy Board approves $419,282 total purchases for squad cars
The Grundy County Board approved the purchase of nine 2025 Interceptors and one unmarked squad car from D’Orazio Ford Tuesday night for a total of $419,282. The purchases, which splits up into $46,496.03 a piece for three of the squad cars and then $46,590 for the other five. An unmarked squad car was also approved for purchase, which will cost $46,844.03. These purchases are in line with the community improvement plan for the 2025 fiscal year, and D’Orazio has agreed to defer payment until December 2024 to fall in the proper county fiscal year.
Grundy County Board recognizes police ProActive unit for its service
The Grundy County Board recognized the Grundy County ProActive Unit for its service Tuesday night. A member of the ProActive unit shared it’s accumulated statistics for 2023: The unit had 43 warrant arrests, 39 misdemeanor arrests, and 90 felony arrests for a total of 172 arrests. It also seized 90.6 grams of methamphetamine, 73.5 grams of cocaine, 31.99 grams of fentanyl, 4.2 grams of MDMA, 2,483 grams of cannabis and 372 doses of prescription drugs. It has also seized 24 firearms and $81,223.
Grundy County Board approves $200,000 for Gardner bridge repairs
The Grundy County Board has appropriated $200,000 in Motor Fuel Tax funding to match the federal funding for the superstructure replacement of two bridges on Gardner Road. Both bridges are in critical shape, and one of them was repaired in January due to a hole in the bridge deck. County Engineer Eric Gibson told the board back in February that the bridge had a three-foot hole straight through the top, and that he could stand on the bridge and look down and see the creek.
