Buchanan Street under Route 47 closed in Morris for construction
Buchanan Street west of Kiersted Street and east of the Forte Dance Studio in Morris will be closed for the next couple of days for construction. Construction crews are working on the phase 3B of Morris’ long-term control plan sanitary sewer rehabilitation project. The city started the project back in February, and Liberty Street at Buchanan Street has been closed intermittently between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. since then.

Grundy County Historical Society hosts presentation on Kankakee & Southern Railroad this Tuesday
The Grundy County Historical Society is hosting Josh Biggers at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Wesley Center, 111 W. North St., Morris to talk about the Kankakee and Southern Railroad. The K&S Railroad started operations in 1882 and went between Kankakee and Seneca via Bonfield, Freilings, Union Hill, ESsex, Coster, Gardner, Booth, Mazon, Wauponsee and Langham. It had 42.15 miles of main track and 6.41 miles of sidetracks, and it was abandoned on Feb. 24, 1933.
Overnight lane closures on I-80 at River Road
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to replace the bridge carrying River Road over Interstate 80, in Shorewood, overnight lane closures, accompanied by 15-minute full expressway traffic stops, are scheduled to take place over four nights beginning, weather permitting, Wednesday, April 24. The closures are necessary to install steel support beams for the new bridge over the interstate.
Remains Of Chicago Area Soldier Who Died In WWII To Be Buried
The remains of a Chicago area soldier who died as a prisoner of war during World War Two are set to be laid to rest later this year. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced that U.S. Army Private 1st Class Harry Jerele of Berkeley was accounted for last December. Jerele was captured when Japanese forces invaded the Philippine Islands in December 1942. Scientists used DNA analysis and historical records to officially identify his remains, which will be buried at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood on October 6th.
