City Tree Trimming Operations Now Underway
The City of Geneva announced tree trimming operations will be taking place over the next several months on the City's west side. A City contractor started trimming trees in July west of the Fox River and north of State Street (Route 38). Trimming occurs year-round with the majority of the work being performed in the fall.
Special Storm Brush Collection Extended
Geneva is extending a special citywide brush collection to help residents remove fallen trees and branches stemming from strong storms that swept through the area July 14-15. This free brush pickup began July 22 and will continue the week of July 29 for residents living within the City’s municipal boundaries. The City, Kramer Tree Specialists (the City’s contractor), and our mutual aid partners have finished collecting brush north of State Street (Route 38) west of the Fox River, the hardest hit area of the community. Crews are now operating in the downtown south of State Street and west of downtown.
What’s really behind all the Geneva power outages
Monday’s power failure marks the ninth 20-second outage on Geneva’s west side since June first. And there was nary a cloud in the sky nor any wind to speak of when it happened. We did have two sustained blackouts on the 15th and 16th, but there was some pretty nasty weather involved in those, particularly that Sunday.
An Aurora music room will give free history lessons with upcoming screenings
The Venue in Aurora will offer two free movie nights this summer. The first one highlights “Woodstock.” This documentary illustrates the start of the 1960s counterculture movement. It includes include artist interviews, performances and more. The second film is “Cheat You Fair: The Story of Maxwell Street.”

Report Shows 110% Rise in Illinois Domestic Violence Deaths as Advocates Call for Action
Advocacy groups are sounding the alarm on a spike in domestic violence cases. A new report from the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence says domestic violence deaths in Illinois rose by 110% last year, with 94 incidents of domestic violence leading to 120 deaths in 2023.
