Kane County: A Hub of Illinois' Top Pumpkin Farms
Illinois is the largest pumpkin producer in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In 2021, the state harvested 15,900 acres of pumpkins, the highest in the country. It also produced 652 million pounds of pumpkins, which exceeds the combined production of the top five pumpkin-producing states. Kane County is among the top 10 pumpkin-producing counties in Illinois.
Local Heroes: Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission Members Win Major Honors
Nate Johnson and Jake Zimmerman from the Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission have been acknowledged for their service to veterans. Johnson, a U.S. Army veteran and former intern at the commission, received the 2023 Steve Barrett Veterans Service Officer of the Year Award from the Illinois Association of County Veterans Assistance Commissions. He currently serves as Assistant Superintendent.
