Janesville family to attend World Series with 11-year old Brewers 'Golden Ticket'
JANESVILLE — The Bates family refers to it as the “Golden Ticket,” the voucher Willy Wonka hid in his chocolate bars. But it is far sweeter to a Brewers fan. The one-pound brass “Timeless Ticket” was given to Alan Bates by his daughter and son-in-law, Emery and Brian Terwilliger, for his birthday, Father’s Day and Christmas, back in 2015. His ticket, and 999 others like it, were limited editions issued for $1,000 apiece by the Brewers’ organization — good for any future game. It‘s been an act of faith that Bates has held on to the ticket ever since. His patience finally paid off. On Friday, Bates, 76, his wife, Jessica Southworth Bates, and Terwilliger will be sitting in the terrace section of the Milwaukee stadium, American Family Field, for the first game of the World Series. The ticket allowed him to buy two more seats for $1,000 apiece. Terwilliger will fly from Los Angeles on Thursday night’s red eye. She will leave at 5 a.m. Saturday — back in time for her son’s soccer game. Bates, of Janesville, a longtime Rock County attorney and judge, has had season tickets on the terrace level since the stadium opened in 2001.

Football: Parker snaps 17-game losing skid to Middleton en route to playoff-clinching win
MIDDLETON — To keep its season alive and make the playoffs, Janesville Parker had no choice but to take down host Middleton Friday night, a task that five other teams in the Big Eight failed to do this season. The Vikings (4-5, 4-3 Big Eight) did just that, securing a 27-20 victory to snap a 17-game losing streak to the Cardinals (5-4, 5-2 Big Eight) while more importantly securing a spot in the playoffs. The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association released the 2026 playoff brackets on Saturday morning. Janesville Parker earned the eighth seed and will face top-seeded Hamilton (9-0, 7-0 Greater Metro) in Level 1 of the playoffs on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. While the Vikings let up 14 points in the fourth quarter, they never trailed as they fought to earn their spot in the playoffs. Parker coach Joe Flister said it was a great night. “The end of the game for me is a little bit of a blur right now,” Flister said in a phone interview with The Gazette on Saturday. “I have to go back and watch the tape and just try to relive it because it was just one of those magical nights.
