Tiger Transfer Has Heartfelt Message for Clemson Family

A veteran Clemson player, who recently entered the transfer portal, had a heartfelt message for the Clemson Family this week as he moves on from the Tigers.

After putting his name in the portal last week, graduate guard Alex Hemenway had this to say on Monday via social media:

“Clemson Family,

“I just want to start by saying how grateful and thankful I am for the support over my time here from the Clemson community, fans and donors especially.

“It’s unfortunately been a real physical and mental battle these past few years dealing with injuries but having the love and support of my brothers, coaches, and the entire city of Clemson has helped me be able to push myself to continue to work and get myself healthy and back to the caliber of player I know I can be.

“From taking a scrawny kid from Indiana and helping him grow into a mature man and player over the years, I will be forever indebted to this program and the people of Clemson. Although I won’t be able to finish my career here in Littlejohn, my heart will always be in Clemson for the rest of my life. Thank you Tiger fans for everything!

Alex Hemenway

Hemenway spent the last five seasons with the Tigers, playing in 95 games with 25 starts.

For his career, the 6-foot-4, 192-pounder averaged 5.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3.

This past season, Hemenway was limited by injury to only five games, averaging 5.2 points, 0.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game on 38.1 percent shooting from the field.

In 2022-23, Hemenway battled plantar fascia in his foot most of the year, but appeared in 20 games and made 12 starts, averaging 24.0 minutes per contest. He averaged 6.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 50 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from 3.

Hemenway joined the Tigers as a three-star prospect in the 2019 class after choosing Clemson over Nebraska, Creighton, DePaul and Belmont. The Castle High School (Newburgh, Ind.) product was ranked as the No. 10 recruit in the state of Indiana.
