Already having his guy committed in the 2025 class, running backs coach CJ Spiller has turned his attention towards the next recruiting class.
Last week, Spiller made a stop by Fleming High School (Fl) to check in on 2026 RB Sebastian Cruz. With the 6-foot back also being a track star just like Spiller was, the two had a lot to bond over.
“I really like him,” Cruz told The Clemson Insider. “We talked a little bit of track and how he ran a 10.3 and I ran a 10.9. Still far away from his speed, though. And then how he went to the NFL. Just kind of a get to know each other type thing.”
Cruz is planning to camp at Clemson on June 4. It will be his first time on campus and he is coming to get the attention of the coaches, as well as being interested in learning more about what Dabo Swinney’s program has to offer.
“I am looking to compete,” Cruz said. “Looking to succeed and get the coaches attention in hopes they will offer me. I also want to learn more about the culture, the family-like atmosphere. Everything about the school.”
Army and Iowa State have already offered Cruz and when he compares Clemson to those two schools and some of the others he is hearing from, there are a couple of things that stand out.
“They always have one of the top defenses,” he said. “They are a big ACC school… that atmosphere. And the bond’s people create there.”
The Tigers are about to start offering recruits in the 2026 class next month, and Cruz is hoping to take the first step towards adding one when he competes at camp next month.
“That would be huge,” Cruz said. “That would be awesome to have that offer from Clemson. It would be such a blessing. I would just feel very special and very honored for them to take a chance on my skills.”
While he is still extremely early in the process and has yet to firm up any kind of timeline on a decision, Cruz does know some of the things he is looking for in a school. Academics will play a huge role, as will culture.
“I am looking for culture,” Cruz said. “I am looking for that good bond with my head coach, my position coach, the players around the campus. And definitely education.”
