LAKE PLACID | A Saranac Lake woman is now behind bars following a routine traffic stop that led to the roadside discovery of methamphetamine, crack cocaine and cocaine. Lake Placid Village Police pulled Nancy G. Nixon over on Main Street at about 5:15 a.m. Nov. 30 when she was allegedly found with approximately 33 grams of meth, 85 grams of cocaine and 126 grams of crack cocaine.

TOWN OF DEKALB, New York (WWNY) - State police have ticketed the driver in Saturday’s rollover crash in St. Lawrence County. Troopers and fire crews were called to the area of 2287 Route 11 in the town of DeKalb just outside Richville shortly before 10 a.m. and found a car on its roof in a field.

In the quiet town of Long Lake, a domestic dispute has ended in irreversible tragedy. Sixty-four-year-old Terrance J. Skerrett was fatally shot by Patrick B. Skerrett, a 65-year-old relative, within the walls of their Deerland Road residence. The State Police were alerted to the incident early Sunday morning, and an autopsy confirmed the homicide, which resulted from gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen. Charged with second-degree murder, Patrick Skerrett is being held without bail, and the nature of his relationship with Terrance remains undisclosed amidst a community reeling from the shock.

None of the people in the home were injured, police say.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has reported the completion of the Adirondack Rail Trail's first phase. This 34-mile recreational corridor links Tupper Lake and Lake Placid. The trail is being developed in three stages, converting the old railbed into a shared-use path. Once finished, the trail will be open all year, free of charge, for hikers, bikers, skiers, and snowmobile users.
