(670 The Score) The Bears’ current proposal for a new lakefront stadium, which calls for the public to fund around half of a $4.7-million project, remains a “non-starter” in the eyes of Gov. J.B. Pritzker, his spokesperson reiterated in a statement to Crain’s Chicago Business on Wednesday.

Other key state leaders have echoed the same refrain, putting the Bears in a difficult position moving forward. The Bears have committed $2 billion in private funding to the project, but there isn’t an appetite in Illinois for the public to subsidize a sports stadium, state lawmakers have said.

On their show Thursday, Dan Bernstein and Laurence Holmes reacted to the latest developments. Bernstein was glad that lawmakers were putting up a fight.

“The fact that legislators at any level are listening in the best interest of their constituents is wonderful,” Bernstein said while calling a publicly funded stadium “bad public policy.”

In Holmes’ eyes, the Bears “have been proven wrong.”

“I am glad to see that at least for now that people are sticking to their principles about this and they have talked to the voting public and the voting public, for the most part, has been like, ‘Nah, we don’t need to do that,’” Holmes said.
