CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police have issued a community alert regarding a series of arsons in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

There were three fires within 30 minutes on Sunday night. Police said they were intentionally started in garbage cans and spread to structures.

Two of the fires started in the 300 block of East 70th Street. The third took place close by, near 69th Street and South Prairie Avenue. All of the fires were started in alleys.

Police said they believe the same person responsible for Sunday’s fires also set garbage fires that spread in late March, near 68th Street and Indiana Avenue, as well as near 68th Street and Michigan Avenue.

Authorities have asked people to report suspicious individuals.

They did not have a description of the person, or persons, responsible.
