OAK LAWN, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Friends, family members and fellow officers gathered on Sunday in Oak Lawn for the visitation of slain Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca.

The Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, located on 103rd Street near South Keating Avenue, has become a familiar place for Chicago police as multiple wakes for fallen police officers have been held here over the years.

As has happened in the past, mourners arriving at visitation were greeted, in part, by a large American flag — flown by the Chicago Fire Department — and two police officers on horseback outside of the funeral home. Emotional support animals were also at Blake-Lamb.

Huesca, who would have turned 31 last week, was shot and killed as he was heading home from a shift in the early hours of April 21. Chicago police said he was wearing his uniform at the time of the shooting, which took place during an attempted carjacking.

Over the weekend, Aurora man Xavier Tate Jr. was charged with first-degree murder in Huesca’s death, but he has not been taken into custody. The department issued a $100,000 reward for any information that would lead to Tate’s arrest.

Huesca’s funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday.
