Denver, Colorado — a city where the mountains rise blue and bold against the sky, where red-brick Victorians and glass towers stand shoulder to shoulder, where the scent of roasting green chile drifts through neighborhoods stitched together by memory and migration. They turn their bodies to the walls and proceed to take their drugs. I pick up trash most Saturdays in the Golden Triangle area and I’ve found syringes, many, many scraps of foil, indicating drug use, and of course plenty of other trash.
