Two Chandler first responders were on hand for a proclamation reading about Water Safety Awareness Month at the May 6 Chandler City Council meeting.

Chandler Council member Christine Ellis, Chandler police officer Noah Deuker and Chandler Fire Department Battalion Chief Carlos Vargas witnessed as Mayor Kevin Hartke read the proclamation.

Many Chandler homes have swimming pools, hot tubs or similar features.

In 2023, according to the organization Children’s Safety Zone, there were 133 water-related incidents reported in Maricopa and Pinal counties.

Fifty of those incidents involved children 5 and younger. Among those 50 incidents, 12 resulted in fatalities.
