    Man not wearing seatbelt at time of fatal Pickens Co. crash, coroner says

    PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — One person is dead after getting into a single car crash late Friday night.

    According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 11 p.m. on Old Seneca Road, near the Oconee County line.

    A 2003 Volkswagen was traveling north on the roadway when it ran off right side of the road and hit several trees, the Pickens County Coroner’s Office reported.

    Upon hitting the trees, the man was ejected from the car, and died at the scene. Investigation revealed that the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

    The coroner’s office has identified the man that died as Jonathan Reid Hancock, of Central, South Carolina. He was 40 years old.

    South Carolina Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office are continuing their investigations.
