UTICA/NEW HARTFORD — What does the future hold for Mohawk Valley’s two defunct hospitals? The answer may lie with the community. Both St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica and Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford shut down on Oct. 29, 2023, once patients from both facilities were transferred to the new Wynn Hospital in downtown Utica on its opening day. The two defunct hospitals now sit vacant as Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS), the healthcare organization that owns and operates Utica’s Wynn Hospital and the former St. Elizabeth and St. Luke’s hospitals, continues to collaborate with government entities and private organizations to find the best reuse option for the former hospital campuses.

UTICA, N.Y. -- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development—or HUD—has allocated $9 million in grants to assist families with financial literacy and job training. The Utica Municipal Housing Authority is getting almost $130,000 and Utica's Section 8 Program will receive $54,000 in Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Program grants.
