$80M Boulevard Place set to rise in downtown OKC after years of delays

A tower crane is set to once again appear in the downtown Oklahoma City skyline as construction ramps up on the long-delayed $80 million Boulevard Place immediately east of the Omni Hotel. The seven-story, 262-unit Boulevard Place is the tallest downtown housing built from scratch since the 1966 opening of the 24-story Regency Tower at 333 NW 5th St. Boulevard Place is being built at the southeast corner of E.K. Gaylord Boulevard and Oklahoma City Boulevard and is at the gateway to the stadium district being built to the east. The owners of the Oklahoma City Thunder, meanwhile, have shown an interest in developing the current Paycom Center block that is north of Boulevard Place once Continental Coliseum is complete. All of that development provides little wiggle room for construction, said John Semtner, project engineer with Tradesman Architectural Studios. "This project is a very tight and difficult site," Semtner said. "To see this rise up out of the ground is a very exciting moment in construction." Not Your Average Joe's growth stalls amid DOL lawsuit, closures

A period of growth and change for nonprofit coffee shop Not Your Average Joe and its affiliated businesses has come to a halt following fallout related to an ongoing federal lawsuit filed by the United States Department of Labor. Recent closures and plans for moves at three of the brand's locations — ABE's in downtown OKC and the Choctaw and Broken Arrow locations of Not Your Average Joe — came unexpectedly in recent days. The company, a nonprofit that aims to provide meaningful employment to people with physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities, posted about the various closures on its social media channels. Founder Tim Herbel told The Oklahoman in October that ABE's was moving from its current location inside Sailor & The Dock to a location currently occupied by the Not Your Average Joe in the Ron J.
