GSD3’s Humbolt Child Care Center expands opportunity
CANYON CITY – Grant School District #3’s Humbolt Child Care Center Director Trina Fell appeared on KJDY’s Coffee Time Tuesday with an update on the center after its first few months in operation. Fell said sometimes cost can be a barrier for families who need childcare, and more opportunities are coming available at Humbolt:
Prairie City Summer School Program kicks off June 12th
PRAIRIE CITY – Prairie City School District Special Education Instructor Emily Bernard was on KJDY’s Coffee Time Friday, and informed listeners that she’ll also be an instructor for the Elementary School’s Summer Program. She said when school gets out there will be a couple of days off, and then summer school begins:
Grant Soil & Water Conservation District & employee earn state recognition
JOHN DAY \ SUNRIVER – Big news for our local conservation service agency. Grant Soil and Water Conservation employee Pat Holliday has been awarded the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Oregon’s Employee Partnership Award at a recent conference in Sunriver. In addition, the NRCS presented their annual Partnership Award to the Grant Soil and Water Conservation District. The state recognition took place at the CONNECT+ conference April 16-18. Over 75 attend Grant County Candidate Forum
JOHN DAY – The Grant County Candidate Forum was held Tuesday night at the fairgrounds pavilion in John Day. Over 75 people were in attendance. Candidates for Justice of the Peace, Treasurer, County Commissioner Position 2, and County Judge were given an opportunity to speak to the public and answer questions.
Eastern Oregon sheriffs to attend funeral of fallen Ada County Deputy
EASTERN OREGON — Sheriffs and deputies from counties across eastern Oregon will join others in law enforcement to pay respects and remember one of their own. Hundreds of law enforcement officials are expected to attend the memorial service for fallen Ada County Deputy Tobin Bolter on Tuesday, April 30 in Boise.
Man arrested following shots fired incident in Mt. Vernon
MT. VERNON – A possible shooting incident out of Mt. Vernon is still under investigation, following the arrest of one man last week. On Wednesday, April 24th, at approximately 7:32 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a location on N. Mountain Blvd. in Mt. Vernon for the report of shots fired. Sheriff Todd McKinley reports that John F. Kucala, 60, of Mt. Vernon was arrested on a weapons charge.
LCSD to offer online learning next year
LONG CREEK – Long Creek School District had several guests who appeared on KJDY’s Coffee Time Monday morning. School Board Chair Marcy Watson said next year the district will feature an all-new online schooling option for students. Watson said the board, along with school staff, included the new online schooling option in the district’s 3-year Strategic Plan:
GCSO conducts separate arrests over the weekend
JOHN DAY/CANYON CITY – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office conducted a couple of arrests over the weekend, according to Grant County Emergency Communications. On Sunday at about 3:26 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a location on South Canyon Blvd. in John Day for the report of a domestic dispute. As a result, Daren Drury, 55, of Canyon City was arrested for Harassment. Nothing further was released on that incident.
